What’s at stake?

We don’t have to speculate as to how CI-97 (SOS) would affect Montana's people and public services. We can look to our neighbors in Colorado and learn from their experience.

CI-97 is modeled after Colorado’s "TABOR" measure. Colorado is the only state that has such a measure.

Because CI-97 has all the same key elements as Colorado’s TABOR, we can expect it would have the same results for Montana’s:

Senior citizens

Public health and safety

Local communities

Jobs and economic development

K-12 schools

Higher education

Montana's most vulnerable citizens

Agriculture

A study by the Sierra Institute on Applied Economics found that if CI-97 had been enacted in Montana 15 years ago, Montana state government spending would have been reduced by 27.3%.

In other words, the Montana legislature would have been forced to cut that amount from the state budget that pays for education, public safety, health care, etc.
